Another poll has dropped and once again Joe Biden’s approval rating has plummeted. One has his numbers at 34 % approval and over 53 % disapproval. This matches the lowest that Donald Trump had, and Trump’s ratings climbed from that low. Biden has been sinking, and many do not believe he has reached the bottom yet. What can he do to make people believe he is up to the job of President?
In foreign affairs, it seems that changing policies will not enhance our prestige in the world. So far, Biden has insulted Vladimir Putin of Russia, and out ineptness about Afghanistan’s withdrawal has emboldened Putin to invade Ukraine. This image of weakness has also encouraged China to make noises about annexing Taiwan, by force if necessary. After four years of little bellicose moves by North Korea, that rogue nation has resumed their military exercises and threats against Far Eastern nations, with South Korea and Japan now within its capabilities for offensive action.
Our standing took another blow when, in trying to encourage major oil producers to increase the output of their oil fields, the leaders of two of these, Saudi Arabia and the Emirates, refused to take his calls. To make matters worse, two of the worst regimes on the globe, Venezuela and Iran, were approached to give us more oil in order to cover the Russian oil we now have banned.
Canada is miffed because we canceled the Keystone XL pipeline, from that nation. NATO and the EU have led the way in arming Ukraine, with Biden and the U. S. lagging behind in support of that beleaguered nation.
Under Donald Trump we achieved energy independence for the first time in over 70 years. But with Biden canceling pipeline construction and banning drilling and fracking on federal lands, we have slipped back into relying on foreign imports to make up for the shortfall of oil. His energy policy has caused gasoline prices to soar to their highest level since the 1980s. To reverse his energy policies would anger the far left of his party, something he cannot do and expect any kind of success in the next few years.
Adding to his energy prices and their increase, the general level of inflation has reached its highest since 1981. Supply chain problems, made worse by regulations at the ports of entry, added to the inflationary spiral. The latest poll shows a supermajority of Americans blame the President for the problems of higher prices at the pump and in the grocery store. No matter what Biden claims, the ’buck’ truly stops in the Oval Office, and no amount of speech making can turn around the rise in prices.
In addition, Biden’s support of unpopular social causes cannot be undone. He has stated that he ‘has the back’ of kids who want to change their gender, and reversed a long help position on federal funding of abortion. His DOJ now has gotten the courts to approve the surgery to change a federal prisoner’s gender. Biden has opposed Florida’s law that prevents teachers from talking to kids from 5 to 7 or 8 about their sex lives, and from pushing Critical Race Theory on these impressionable children.
Our border crisis continues apace. Biden’s plans now are to scrap Title 42, which deported many illegal aliens back to their country of origin. Now, the Border Patrol believes that when that happens on May 23, a surge at our southern border will overwhelm their ability to handle all those forcing their way into the U. S. In fiscal year 2022, more than a million illegals have come in, with many more going undetected. In Biden’s first year in office, 1.65 million have come in, so it looks like illegal immigration will increase without a change in policies by this administration.
Biden’s budget for the next fiscal year contains massive tax hikes, including taxes on the rich because he keeps pushing the canard that those who are wealthy do not ‘pay their fair share’. The facts do not bear this out; the top 1% of taxpayers paid about 40% of federal taxes received.
Of much concern is the President’s mental capacity. His gaffes, misstatements, out right made-up stories, forgetting people’s names all point to a soon-to-be 80 year old in some stage of dementia. That is a problem that seems unsolvable, for nothing he can do can reverse this.
So can Joe turn it around and avoid a red tsunami this November? Probably not, and on several of these issues he does not seem to want to make changes in his policies.
Of course, if the President does not serve out his full first term, his Vice-President, Kamala Harris would inherit these problems, and she has been dubbed the ‘worst’ vice-president ever. Pray for our nation!
