THE PROMISE AND HOPE OF SPRING
Introduction:
When does Spring start? Spring equinox? Meteorological spring? I take the latter!
God’s Word does reference the seasons and the importance of the turning of the year. What we shall do this morning is take some various subjects about the season upon us and see what spiritual truths we find.
I. THE CONSTANCY OF GOD
“Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.
Before the mountains were brought forth,
Or ever You had formed the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” Psalm 90:1-2
““I am the Alpha and the Omega, [d]the Beginning and the End,” says the [e]Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
II. THE BEAUTY OF SPRING
“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow : they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” Matthew 6: 28-29
III. PROMISE OF HARVEST AND THE CONSTANCY OF THE SEASONS
“While the earth remains,
Seedtime and harvest,
Cold and heat,
Winter and summer,
And day and night
Shall not cease.”
Genesis 8:22
IV. ORDER AND DESIGN IN CREATION
“Then God said, ‘Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth’; and it was so. 12And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:11-12
V. A PICTURE OF THE SPIRITUAL LIFE, A METAPHOR
“ Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Galatians 6:7-9
Conclusion:
Spring is in the air! A trite, hackneyed phrase, but true anyway. And most of us, after a long dismal Winter, welcome its arrival.
From God in His Word, we see lessons even from the turning of the seasons. And as we find ourselves forced to stay more at home in these trying times, these lessons need to stay with us as the earth warms. The crops will be planted and begin to grow and we should rejoice in our beautiful, beautiful world.
