Recently Chuck Schumer, in an attempt to totally vilify the Republican Party, intimated that the Jan. 6 riot (fondly referred to by the clueless Democrats as an “insurrection”) is tied to the Republican state legislatures that are passing laws to return voting laws to what they were before the Democrats used COVID as a reason to make cheating the new norm. We all know what happened. Ballots were mailed to all registered voters, many of whom had moved to other cities or states; ballots in their envelopes were found simply dumped on the floors of some apartment buildings because the postal carrier apparently didn’t want to have to stand all day putting the correct envelope in the correct mail slot; at least one bag of returned ballots was found discarded in a ditch; poll watchers in one “must win state” were sent for lunch and then prevented by the police from reentering the polling place; for the first time in history, polling places “stopped counting ballots” well before midnight and sent everyone home (except Democrat workers) with President Trump well in the lead and then opened up the next morning with Biden having miraculously overtaken him while no one was supposedly there to count votes. I could go on and on about the many irregularities that took place- – – the “found” boxes of votes, the people seen filling out ballots at the back of a panel truck, the records that were deliberately destroyed, the Democrat officials who refused to produce records to investigating committees, the Biden ballots that were run through the counting machines multiple times- – – and that doesn’t even count the people who voted who were either not citizens, no longer lived in the area where they voted, voted in the place of other people, or were dead. Democrats are nothing if not ingenious!
But the point I want to make here, is that Schumer and the Democrats wish to make a short-lived riot in which the only person killed was an unarmed rioter (they were ALL unarmed, by the way) and the return to normal voting procedures in Republican states into an attempt to destroy our democracy. First of all, one always has to remind Democrats that we do not live in a democracy but in a democratic Republic. There is a vital and well-thought-out difference. In a democracy, every vote would count equally, giving the Democratic strongholds in the east and west coasts and in large cities, control over the entire country. This is what Democrats want because these people, not knowing how nice life is away from the constant oversight of big government, will always vote for Democrats because they have been taught and are being taught to fear normal people. Since most of them never actually come in contact with us it is hard for them to imagine a place where a woman can forget her purse in a Walmart shopping cart, go home, realize it is gone and return to the store, only to find out that it has been turned in to the store office with all cash and credit cards intact by another shopper. On the east and west coasts or in the Democrat-controlled big cities, she might come back to find it discarded in a nearby trashcan, bereft of everything including her packet of Kleenex and her sunglasses.
A democratic Republic, which our founders created and which is enshrined in the Constitution gives everyone an equal vote within their state. Then, for the office of president, electors, whose number is determined by the state’s population, vote for the president, following the majority vote of their state. Members of the House are apportioned by population, but each state, including the least populous of all, has two senators. Thus, since all congressmen are elected by the people of their states, it is assumed that the members of the House and the Senate will vote in the best interest of those people who elected them. Republicans generally manage to do that far better than Democrats who on the whole vote as their leaders tell them to vote. Not so, however, with Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Although Arizona has voted in some conservative Democrats lately, like Sinema, there are still 120,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats in the state. In West Virginia, President Trump took the state by 40 points in the 2020 election. You can’t get much redder than that. Thus, both of these Democrat senators have become thorns in the flesh of Chuck Schumer and Biden* because they have assured minority leader Mitch McConnell that they will not vote to abolish the filibuster. Furthermore, Sen. Manchin has recently gone on Fox News and emphatically stated that he will NOT vote for the 3 trillion dollar “Build Back Better” bill nor for the “For the People” bill (which gives the federal government control over elections, allowing the Democrats to continue the shenanigans they did in 2020 and overturn the attempts by Republican states to ensure safe and secure elections). The fact that getting rid of the filibuster is to throw out a rule that has worked for two hundred years and that taking federal control of elections might well be unconstitutional since it limits the constitutional rights of individual states bothers them not one whit!
The term “filibuster” wasn’t used until about 1853, but obviously the strategy of long speeches had been in use before that. “The tactic of using long speeches to delay action on legislation appeared in the very first session of the Senate. On September 22, 1789, Pennsylvania Senator William Maclay wrote in his diary that the ‘design of the Virginians . . . was to talk away the time, so that we could not get the bill passed,’” (senate.gov). The design is to prevent the passage of a bill, giving the minority party in the Senate leverage to get the other party to negotiate with them. But since the Obama administration, when Republicans were simply told by the Democrats that they didn’t need any Republican input on “The Affordable Care Act” (which was hardly affordable!) such negotiations have been rare indeed. Under Schumer’s leadership as minority leader during President Trump’s term, “Democrats used the filibuster to block funding for construction of Trump’s border wall in 2019. They used it not once, but twice to impede passage of the Cares Act — forcing Republicans to agree to changes including a $600 weekly federal unemployment supplement. They used it in September and October to stop Republicans from passing further coronavirus relief before the November election. They used it to halt Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-S.C.) police reform legislation so Republicans could not claim credit for forging a bipartisan response to the concerns of racial justice protesters. They used it to block legislation to force “sanctuary cities” to cooperate with federal officials, and to stop a prohibition on taxpayer funding of abortion, bans on abortions once the unborn child is capable of feeling pain, and protections for the lives of babies born alive after botched abortions, ” (Thiessen, Marc. Washington Post. 26 Jan. 2021).
But now the Democrats want to be rid of it and have warned they will not allow the GOP to dictate to the Senate how they may proceed. Strange, but that is exactly what the Democrats did as the minority party under President Trump, and they were a true minority. The GOP has exactly 50 senators as does the Democrat Party. The Democrats’ claim to majority status depends solely on the vote of Harris*. And therein lies the problem of the rogue senators Sinema and Manchin who, rather that obeying Schumer, are obeying the people who elected them.
A federal takeover of elections by the Democrats would eliminate all laws passed by states to ensure the security and fairness of their elections. Again, ballots would be mailed out to everyone with no attempt to check whether they still lived at that address or lived at all. Ballots again would end up being filled out by people to whom they were not addressed, Republican poll watchers might be done away with, ballots might be counted multiple times, and no identification would be required to vote. Democrats insist that black people are too ignorant to be able to obtain identification. And since many Democrat-run cities now require to see proof of vaccination and booster before you can eat in a restaurant, Democrats must also believe that all blacks are too poor to eat out. If they live in Democrat-run cities, that may well be the case, but here in God’s country (Red states and counties), they eat in restaurants all the time and are NOT asked to show proof of vaccination. But they will be asked for ID to vote. Why not? Voting should be the sole right of those who are U.S. citizens and IDs ensure that. Furthermore, Democrats who get so bothered by “voter suppression” have only to pass a law requiring states to provide free identification to citizens beneath a certain income level. Most states already do that. There is no problem but in the minds of the Democrats!
So, who is trying to overturn our democracy, oops, our democratic Republic? Not the Republicans! We want to keep it with all of the protections it offers in the way of states’ rights, voting security, and the ability of the minority party to have input on bills that are passed by Congress. The ones who want to change all of that are the Democrats.
They want to change voting laws to make it easier to cheat (we are the only developed country that allows voting by mail because of the ease of voter fraud in that system).
They want to get rid of the filibuster that they used over and over to prevent the passage of bills during President Trump’s term. It was great then, but bad now that it is likewise preventing them from devastating the country with their spending spree plans.
They want to eliminate the electoral college so that lesser populated states in the Midwest and northeast would have no say at all in the election of a president.
They want to force vaccine mandates on everyone, ignoring the 1st amendment right to practice one’s religion, and once a Federal Appeals Court told them not to impose the mandate, they went ahead and told businesses to impose it anyway while they searched for and found a liberal court that would rule in their favor. And if the Supreme Court finds a vaccine mandate unconstitutional, will they ignore that court as well? “My body, my choice,” is their mantra when dealing with abortion, but with the vaccine, which lessens the severity of COVID but doesn’t prevent it, “My body, my choice” no longer has meaning.
We are being ruled by a senile man whose handlers are socialists. If we do not stop them, they will turn this country into a socialist cesspool from which we may never be able to recover. Venezuela went from the richest country in South America to a land where people paper their walls with currency because it is so worthless. That could be us. Republicans are not the problem here. It is the socialist Democrat Party who wishes to destroy every safeguard put in place by our founders so that they and they only will be elected from now on. That is enough to keep anyone awake at night!
