Back when I taught in a Junior High School, one of the duties we occasionally had was to assist in the spring track meets with other schools. What brings this to mind was watching the Democratic attempts to score points with the public with their mental gymnastics. If translated into a physical track meet, this group of (almost) excellent players would win hands down. Let’s see how they stack up in the most popular events in the political field.
One of the most closely events watched are the long distance races. Usually these are the 1600 and 800 meter races, where stamina is paramount. What else would explain the staying power of the Democratic “Resistance” since November 8, 2016? Through the cold winter of 2017, the dry spring of that year and the hot summer months, every Democrat worth his or her salt stayed the course, voting against every proposal and nominee President Donald Trump put forth. Continuing into the Fall of last year, and lasting through the cold winter of 2018, the Resistance raced on. Here we are, on the cusp of another hot summer, and still the Resistance is going strong. Allied with that ability to stay the course is Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian collusion (which is not a federal crime) with the Trump campaign in 2016. With a large staff, Mueller is now in his second year of work of digging up whatever he can dig. He has a long way to go to equal the Resistance in the long distance race, but is still chugging along. It should be noted that Mueller had one stumble when he indicted a Russian company that was not in existence during the 2016 U. S. presidential campaign, but he righted himself and raced on.
One of the more entertaining events is the 4X400 meter relay, requiring four runners to take a baton and pass it on to the next teammate waiting. A flawless handoff leads to success. And what happened in the few days show the Dems are masters of such mental track events. Take the meeting where the President mentioned that the members of the immigrant gang MS-13 were animals. After all, their motto is “rape, control, kill.” But one member of the Resistance deliberately omitted the reference to that gang, and reported that President Trump called all immigrants “animals”. And what an impressive sight it was to see that this deliberate omission was handed off to The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, CNN, NBC and other news outlets. Without dropping the narrative, the story, false as it was, was seamlessly presented to the world of how insensitive our leader was. Even as a couple of these outlets (reluctantly) corrected their stories, it was a stunning performance of not dropping the baton.
Short, quick races are left to the fastest runners. The 100 meter race is one of these sprints, and you have to be quick to follow it from start to finish. Again, Democratic operatives are masters at the quick start and rapid pace to find anything to use against the President. An infamous dossier, paid for by the Democrats and Hillary Clinton, contained salacious material supposedly damaging to Mr. Trump. Wow — how quickly the Dems were off the mark to reach that story and claim it for their own in their quest to overturn the election. Even when most of the dossier was proven to be false, the speed at which the Resistance got to the story and held up their prize was breathtaking. Other stories were sprinted to by the Democratic Resistance. Pictures of immigrant children held by the government in boxes and cages were pounced upon with the speed of a cheetah, and made the rounds, until it was revealed the photos were taken in 2014 under the previous administration. Speed was needed to ditch this narrative, and this was accomplished without a hint of embarrassment.
Races featuring both low and high hurdles are a staple of school track meets. In this event, managing to not knock down a hurdle is vital. How agile are the Democrats in avoiding this to continue the race to dethrone President Trump! Still upright they are after hurdles which would be daunting to less competent politicians. The “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act?” — a minor hurdle to leap over, even claiming that they would repeal such when back in power. What about the roaring economy? With the claim that only the top 1% of Americans are really benefited, this hurdle was cleared with confidence. The lowest unemployment in two decades — never mentioned as the Resistance roars around the track. And the same occurred when record unemployment was recorded for African-Americans and Hispanics. Hurdles? What hurdles?
Although several more events could be referenced, two more will suffice to show how well the Democrats manage their mental gymnastics. One is the long jump. In this, the contestant is required to leap as far as they can in one effort. In one respect, the Democrats excel as this one. President Trump was rightly criticized for the Access Hollywood tape, and the Stormy Daniels affair (although it must be admitted that this has almost become a “he said, she said” situation) were pointed out as sleazy pools of corruption in Trump’s background. But these incidents, were more than twelve years in the past and far antedated the President’s time in office. But when confronted with the huge pools of Democratic malfeasance, several while in office, the ability of the Resistance to long jump over this is truly awe-inspiring. John Kennedy — with over 700 names in his “black book”, never touch the Dems as they leap. Lyndon Johnson? What affairs? (They say this even when Lady Bird admitted she knew of his amorous appetite.) Ted Kennedy? He of Chappaquiddick fame and legendary boorishness as Senator was lauded as the “lion of the Senate”. These pools of slime were always leapt over with ease. John Conyers, Al Franken — forgotten in the rush to demonized the President. Other Democrats, like Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer and others were taken in stride as they excelled in the long jump over Democratic sleaze.
When it comes to foreign affairs under President Trump, the Democrats are very good at the high jump. They just ignore the bar and sail over without addressing the very real successes the President has achieved. North Korea wants to talk, ISIS is a shadow of its former self, NATO members are paying more for their own defense, the Iran deal is truly “history”, and we are now respected again.
So much more the Democrats can do when they put their minds to exercising to excel in the political track meet. But one thing must be mentioned — they are losing.
