The dangerous path that the Democratic party has chosen is one that could well propel this country as close to the brink of civil war as it has ever come since the days of Lincoln.  What we have here is a party who lost a legitimate election, clearly lost it, who instead of accepting that loss and working towards winning back the seats they have lost, are trying to seize power by taking down the lawfully elected administration through any means possible.  This is as clear a repudiation of our democracy as this country has ever seen and one that every true American, no matter his or her party affiliation, should clearly and loudly condemn.

Granted President Trump is a polarizing figure.  He can act presidential, but he can also act coarse and brash, speaking without considering the political ramifications of his words.  But he is not a career politician.  He is a wealthy man, yes, but one whose wealth comes from the world of construction, and whose persona is that of the crusty, belligerent construction boss who has had to contend with city and state officials, unions, and yes, sometimes the mob.  He says what he thinks and his thoughts are not necessarily politically correct.

But to a large portion of this country he is just what they wanted.  This is a country that just endured eight years of political correctness being rammed down our throats, who saw that water to sustain tiny fish in an estuary in California was more important than diverting that water to irrigate the fields of California farmers, who watched as coal mines were forced out of business and more and more regulations stifled the ability of oil companies to mine the vast riches that lie off our coastline and beneath our land, to a country that was promised a better healthcare system and has instead seen their healthcare insurance costs double and triple year after year so that they can not afford to use that “insurance” at all. To this country, that has watched the myriads of new government regulations, the war on their religious beliefs, the increased cost of food, fuel and electricity all coming out of their slimmer wallets, and the unfettered waves of illegal immigrants into the country ,to this part of the country, th, President Trump stands as a beacon of hope.

Among blue-collar workers in swing states and in states that usually go Democratic, such as Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, a poll conducted by the Democratic Party itself found that Democrats are viewed unfavorably by 61 percent of the population.  The Republicans are considered more capable of fixing the economy by a whopping 35% difference, and Democrats in Congress are disliked because they won’t cooperate with the GOP and because they are obstructing President Trump.  Clearly this group who has always been the mainstay of the Democratic Party has swung their allegiance firmly into President Trump’s camp and they are growing increasingly irritated at the antics of the Democrats to obstruct him.

The Democrats, realizing belatedly that they needed a platform other than “resistance,” did in fact put forth an agenda of betterment for the middle class, but the things which they proposed were largely what President Trump stood for during his campaign and which he is struggling, without Democratic support, to achieve.  The people obviously didn’t buy their plan, since the above mentioned poll was taken after the release of the Democrats’ great new plan for the country.  Their former base, those that are not of the far left, simply trust the Republicans now more than they trust the Democrats.

So the campaign to remove the President from office continues.  The former FBI director, James Comey, illegally “leaked” notes from conversations with the President to the press by way of a friend in order to force the appointment of a Special Prosecutor.  Republicans, worried about seeming partisan, caved.  The Special Prosecutor, while a well-respected lawyer, is also a close friend of James Comey, a critical witness in his investigation.  He should not have been chosen or, having been offered the position, should have turned it down, but he did not, and now we are stuck with him.

He hired a fleet of lawyers to work with him in the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump team and the Russians during the election.  Several of those lawyers were donors to the Democratic Party and at least one of them worked for the Clinton team.  Impartial?  Now, a grand jury has been impaneled.  The joke among lawyers is that once impaneled, a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich if the prosecutor, or in this case, the Special Counsel, asks them to.  And what will happen if they indict the President or members of his family?  If they suggest that the President be impeached, will a Republican controlled House vote to impeach him?  Would a Republican held Senate vote him guilty if the House did impeach?  It hardly seems likely, but if they did, the outcry from half of the country, no, more than half of the country would be loud and perhaps violent. The Democrats would do well to remember that according to former President Obama, this is the part of the country that clings to their Bibles. . . and their guns.

From the very beginning, the Democratic plan has been to impeach Trump in the unlikely case that he would win the election.  An employee of the DNC who also worked for a time for the Clinton team, said in a televised interview long before the election, that if Trump was elected, he would not be president for long because they had plans to impeach him. So even then, the Democrats had decided not to accept the outcome of the election if it did not result in Hillary Clinton’s win.  This should stop every one of us in our tracks.  One of the two major political parties in the United States had determined before the election took place, not to abide by the will of the people, not to abide by the laws of our great country, not to abide by the Constitution of the United States unless the election result was what they wanted.  This major political party with senators and representatives duly elected by the people of America, planned to circumvent the outcome of a democratic election!

And they did just that.  From almost the first moment, there were cries to abolish (retroactively) the electoral college through which the Republican candidate had legally won the election.  When that call failed, celebrities from Hollywood created an ad that ran for weeks on television, urging members of the electoral college to “vote their consciences” (i.e. vote for Hillary Clinton, instead of for the candidate who had won their states).  They did, in fact, move a few members to change their votes, but more, ironically, switched from Clinton  than switched from Trump!

Then the Green Party candidate, Jill Stein, contested the results in Michigan and Pennsylvania, joined swiftly by the Clinton camp.  Ironically again, the results showed more votes for Trump than had actually been credited to him.

Then the so-called Trump dossier was presented to the FBI.  Ordered by Fusion GPS, a company with both Democratic and Russian connections, the dossier was paid for by a Democratic donor, and purported to outline outrageous behavior by Trump in Russia as well as records of meetings between his lawyer and a Russian in Prague to plan the disruption of the 2016 election by Russia.  Unfortunately for them, the lawyer could prove that he had never been to Prague and was in fact on the West Coast of the U.S. at the time of the supposed meetings.  The dossier has been largely discredited, but Democrats still cling to it as proof of their great Collusion Theory.

That was the first salvo in the Trump/Russian Collusion.  Aided by the mostly left-leaning press and constant “leaks” from unnamed and generally unreliable sources, story after story has broken into print and then televised media.  Even former FBI director Comey testified that the reports were not true but that it wasn’t the job of the FBI to correct false news reports.

Since after months of investigation no real evidence of so-called collusion (which is not illegal in and of itself and was engaged in by the Democrats with the country of Ukraine) has emerged, the Special Counsel has widened his net to cover all business dealings with foreign governments by members of the Trump team, many of whom were, in fact, businessmen with foreign dealings.  That this is a witch hunt in search of a witch, an investigation in search of a crime, is obvious.  But the political fallout from the left, including the press, would be huge if the investigation were stopped.  The Democrats have succeeded in embroiling the country in a nightmare that may last for months if not years and will only result in the continuing division of the people of this country.

The President’s popularity is low, partially because many on the left believe the reports from the news media, not bothering to look at the truth behind the scurrilous lies.  But partially his approval rating is low because the Republicans in Congress, divided between those willing to compromise for the good of the country and those too entrenched in their conservative views to budge from their positions have been unable to repeal and replace Obamacare, leaving people with health costs that are projected to rise by an average of 22% this year. And finally, and most telling, the President’s popularity is low because Democrats, particularly in the Senate, are unwilling to compromise or cooperate in any way with anything on the President’s agenda.

The party not in office has always been known as the “loyal opposition,” opposing those bills they disagreed with but striving to compromise whenever possible for the betterment of the country. Then, in four years, they have had the opportunity to elect someone from their own party.  That is the way democracy has always worked in the United States.  But, it seems, no more.

The Democrats today refer to themselves as the “Resistance.”  The Resistance!  The Resistance were the brave individuals in France and other countries under Nazi occupation during WWII who helped save Jews and rescued downed Allied pilots, often paying with their own lives and the lives of their families.  This was not a war that the Democrats lost!  It was a free and fair election.  They did not lose because of corruption or coercion on the part of Republicans, but because they ran a flawed candidate who offered nothing to Americans that would better their lives.  Democrats are no more subjugated than were the Republicans under Obama, perhaps, it might be argued, considerably less so!  Yet they flirt with sedition, (conduct or speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state) by encouraging cries of “Not my president!” and “Impeach him!” even before he was sworn in, and obstructing the administration at every turn. This is the United States of America, a country that has long prided itself on its ability to change leaders every four to eight years with scarcely more than a ripple in the running of the country!  We are not Venezuela!  But if the Democrats continue with this insane fight against a duly elected administration, we may well be on the road to becoming proof that democracy, after all, does not work!
