Sharks can “smell” small amounts of various chemicals in the water, with the amount of blood needed about one drop per million drops.  Some people are fascinated with sharks.  We have Shark Week, which began on the Discovery Channel in 2009, a series devoted to all things shark.  At various times during the year, news stories of sharks attacking swimmers are highlighted on newscasts.  The movie Jaws was inspired by a series of shark attacks off the East Coast in 1916.

Perhaps some marine biologist will be able to tell us the good that sharks do, but it seems to me that most of the time these creatures attack and maim for food, and then go about hunting for the next meal.  If it is human, there is no remorse; after all, the fish must reason, “that is what I am.”  The shark, then, does not differentiate between good people and bad people.   Sharks are completely amoral.  To avoid these often fatal encounters, just stay out of the water.

On land these days, another kind of shark is operating.  It goes by the name of the Democratic Party, and it seems the only victim stalked is Donald Trump.  Whatever misstep or misspeak the President makes becomes more blood in the water for these sharks.  What they want is all of Trump’s blood; they want him devoured and gone from the political scene.

After the election last year, when it was noted that Hillary Clinton won more popular votes than Trump, the sharks claimed he was an “illegitimate” President.

When the twelve-year-old tape of crude comments Trump made about women was unearthed, the sharks smelled the blood and attacked.

The first national security advisor, Michael Flynn, was shown to be a liar when he misrepresented his past to the Vice-President, and the Democratic sharks went into another feeding frenzy.

More blood in the water was sniffed out with the nomination of Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court.  What a spectacle it was!  Democrats went after a decent, honorable man because Trump had appointed him, and that was more blood.

Another nominee, Betsy de Vos for Education Secretary, offended the Democratic Party’s loyal base, the teacher’s unions, and again the sharks circled.  As they picked off two Republicans in the vote, Vice President Pence had to cast the deciding vote for her confirmation.  The sharks almost had their first victory.

Much blood seemed to be in the water if you judge by the almost hysterical reaction to the FBI’s investigation into the Russian interference in our election.  This circling the President with bared teeth has been vicious, in spite of no credible evidence of Trump’s “collusion” with the Russian bear.

Of course, some of the blood was self-inflicted, with the intemperate tweets by our Commander-in-chief, compounded by his changing explanations of what his policies and actions are.

We are still seeing the shark fins around the administration because of the firing of FBI chief, James Comey.  And with the accusation of the President’s possible interference in the investigation of the Flynn matter, the frenzy has gotten more virulent.

This band of sharks are led and fed by a few major hammerheads.  One is the Minority Leader of the Senate, Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who makes it his mission to go on TV and throw more chum to the sharks who follow his leadership.

Another is the California Congresswoman, Maxine Waters (D-LaLa Land), who regularly calls for Trump’s impeachment.  This has become more prevalent in the past few days, as other Dems follow her lead.  We could list other sharks, as they become more vocal in their opposition to the President.

But these were very docile and obedient sharks, with their teeth filed down to ineffectiveness in the last administration.  After all, their President then was a Democrat, Barack Obama.  But some of the places where shark activity might have produced a beneficial result follow:

When the IRS was shown to unfairly punish non-profit groups when these tried to gain tax-exempt status, where were the sharks?  None of them circled around Lois Lerner or John Koskinen when the scandal struck.

Or the Veterans’ Administration practice of altering records to hide the fact that our vets were having their medical needs delayed or denied, causing some to die before seeing a VA doctor; no official lost his head to those Democratic sharks.

Benghazi, the place where four Americans died in a terrorist attack, was another incident where the Democratic sharks could have brought about justice.  But no, they just placidly swam around while Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice, and President Obama misled the American people about the facts.

Few Democratic sharks even meekly attacked the Democratic nominee for President for her “grossly negligent” handling of top secret emails on her private server while she was Secretary of State.

Will the sharks finally get to their ultimate goal, the devouring of the Presidency of Donald Trump?  Only time will tell.  But one thing we do know —  none of those who are in that pack of predators was sent to Washington, D. C. to attack, attack, attack.  If they were to actually do the job they were “hired” to do, perhaps our nation would be able to successfully address the real problems our country faces.
