I recently had a discussion in a string on Facebook with a gentleman that I don’t know. I had responded to a meme that said: “How long does it take President Trump to change a light bulb? He’ll never change it but lie and say that he did, and Republicans will sit in the darkness and agree that he changed it.” I responded with a summary of the booming economy, saying that I didn’t feel that was darkness, but rather light and a very good thing. A gentleman that I do not know commented that I only cared about my pocketbook before launching into how the President is destroying our democracy, killing the environment, degrading healthcare and so on.
I replied with some facts, showing, I felt, that President Trump has made this more a country which protects our freedoms again instead of the governmental oppression that was beginning under President Obama. And then he answered as liberals always do when presented with the facts: “There is no truth in your statement. It is typical right wing misinformation. You are either a liar or a moron. Probably both.”
I refrained from asking him his IQ or how many college degrees he has, though I think I might have won that contest, but you can’t argue with a liberal. When we conservatives try to point out the facts, liberals come back with the name calling. Look at some of their common complaints about the president, his administration, and conservatives in general and the facts that the liberals conveniently ignore.
- President Trump is a racist.
It is not racist to truthfully observe that those who cross our southern border illegally are not doctors, lawyers and teachers, but rather poor, uneducated and unskilled individuals who by and large become a drain upon our already strained public resources. Nor is it racist to note that among those illegals are criminals or all kinds including murders, rapists, drug smugglers, human traffickers, members of violent gangs who prey upon the young, and perhaps terrorists. Women and girls who cross the border carry birth control pills since it is understood they will probably be raped along the way.
Nor, as the Supreme Court recently ruled, is it racist to deny entry into this country by Muslims (who are, for the uninformed, not a race but a religion that encompasses many races) who live in a few failed countries from which Islamic jihadists are likely to come, especially since millions of Muslims in nearly 40 other countries around the world were never included in the ban.
As for his feelings towards blacks in this country, we could mention the number of blacks who fully support him or who work or have worked for him, and the fact that he, more than any other president in recent decades, has done more to raise the standard of living of black Americans. But I think the most telling example was an incident that occurred during the Republican primary. We might first mention here that the candidates for the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee were three white men and a white woman. Republican candidates included two Hispanics, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio; one black American, Ben Carson; one candidate of Indian (the country) descent; Bobby Jindal, and a women, Carly Fiorina along with a bevy of white men. At one debate, the candidates were being called out from the sidelines one by one to the loud applause of the audience. When Ben Carson’s name came up, he couldn’t hear his name over the applause and so he stayed in the wings. One by one the others heard their names called and went onto the stage, passing Carson by. But not Donald Trump. His name was called shortly after Carson’s, but he didn’t go out. Instead, he stood there with his hand on Carson’s shoulder and waited with him while Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham and all the rest brushed past them. Then finally, the announcer called Ben Carson’s name again and he heard it and went out and Trump followed. That moment above all others in the primaries showed a depth of compassion and love for his fellow-man, regardless of color, that was touching and revealed a depth of character in then candidate Trump that certainly puts paid to any charge of racism.
- Our democracy is being destroyed!
First of all, it is important to remind those who hysterically scream this warning that we live in a Republic, not a Democracy. That there are many elements of democracy in our Republic is undisputable as this is a country that is to be run by the consent of the governed, a government, as Lincoln said, “of the people, by the people and for the people.” That being the case, President Trump is in fact returning the freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution to the people of this country, thereby solidifying those democratic elements.
It was the Obama administration that forced every American to buy healthcare insurance or face paying a fine for not doing so. Freedom? Not so much. Government exchanges offered three plans, different only in the amount of premium paid and the percentage that the plan paid on claims. All plans carried the same coverage, often coverage that individuals did not need, such as birth control pills and maternity coverage still paid for by men and by women beyond childbearing years. Freedom? Not so much. Under President Trump, the fine for not buying government insurance has been reduced to zero, removing the “force” and giving all Americans back their right to choose. In addition, cheaper policies which do not cover items that some Americans do not need are now available for purchase. Freedom? Much more like it!
It was also the Obama administration that forced, through his liberal Supreme Court, gay marriage upon a country that largely believed that while gay Americans could do as they pleased, “marriage” was traditionally and still a compact between a man and a woman. Freedom? Government by the people? No, government by five leftist justices!
It was the Obama administration that forced schools to allow transgender children to use whatever bathroom they wished, forcing little girls to use bathrooms with “girls” with penises and opening the possibility of pedophiles to lie in wait in girls’ restrooms because they could claim to “identify as women.” Freedom of choice? Government by the people? Again, no, at least not until President Trump rescinded the order.
It was under the Obama administration that bakers and florists were fined, sued, and run out of business for refusing to participate in gay marriages which were against their religious beliefs; and the Obama administration who tried to force Catholic charities to provide birth control to their workers against their faith; and Democrats who recently tried unsuccessfully to force Pregnancy Care Centers in California to post notices and inform their clients about free and low-cost abortions, again against their religious beliefs. And it is under the Trump administration that the Supreme Court and Federal Courts are finding in favor of religious freedom as guaranteed in the 1st amendment of the Constitution. This is a return to the freedom of democracy that our founders envisioned for us, not a destruction of it as the left accuses.
The current lunacy about President Trump’s pick to fill the vacancy in the Supreme Court is another example of the Democrats’ attempt to subvert our Constitution and the “Democracy” they claim is soon to be doomed by the current administration. Under Democratic presidents, and unfortunately under some Republicans, Supreme Court Justices have been appointed who have chosen to abrogate their sworn task as Justices to uphold the laws and the Constitution of the United States. Laws, according to the Constitution, are to be enacted by Congress. . . the “voice of the people.” The President upholds them. The Supreme Court interprets them and decides their validity based upon the wording of the Constitution.
In the past eight years especially, the Supreme Court, made undeniably liberal by the addition of Kagan and Sotomayor under President Obama, have “discovered” hitherto unknown “rights” within the wording of the Constitution. Nowhere are gay marriage or transgender rights mentioned in the wording of the Constitution, for example, but the Justices determined that they should be there, and so they “found” them. They created laws that had not been passed by Congress and imparted meaning to the Constitution that the founding fathers never intended. That is a destruction of our “democracy,” not the return to the original meaning that Trump’s appointees will uphold. If the Constitution seems not to have addressed all the issues of our times that Americans feel need to be addressed, that is what amendments are for. That is how it works in our Republic and that is the Republic that President Trump is returning us to.
- President Trump and his supporters are all vile haters and Nazis.
Hmm. It was not a Trump supporter who posed with a bloody head representing the President of the United States, but a Democrat. It was not a Trump supporter who shot at members of congress practicing for a baseball game, nearly killing Representative Scalise, but a Democrat. It was not a Trump supporter who suggested that the president’s young son should be locked in a cage with pedophiles, but a Democrat. It was not a Trump supporter who attacked an unsuspecting Senator Rand Paul, breaking his ribs, puncturing a lung, and causing him months of pain and suffering, but a Democrat. It was not a Trump supporter who attacked a young teenager in a restaurant, throwing drinks in his face and stealing his Make America Great Again hat off of his head, but a Democrat. It was not Trump supporters who verbally attacked conservatives in Florida and in Virginia, running them out of restaurants and theaters, but Democratic mobs. It was not a Trump supporter who encouraged more such confrontations, but a Democratic Congresswoman. It was not a Trump supporter who said “F* * k” the president at an awards gala, but a Democrat. It is not Trump supporters who end every political discussion with “You are a racist, homophobic, xenophobic, Nazi moron!”, but Democrats. Who are the haters here?
And while there may be some White Supremacists or KKK members (there are still a few hundred of them scattered around the country) who hang on to the edges of the Republican Party, we conservatives as a whole are far more inclusive than are the Democrats. They briefly removed God from their party platform in 2012 before deciding that might lose them some votes and putting it back. They silence those who speak out in opposition to their ideas. They support women, except for conservative women whom they attack as “feckless c***s.” They support blacks, except for conservative blacks who are labeled as Uncle Toms. They pride themselves on being inclusive, but they won’t include evangelical Christians or Catholics whose views they believe to be extreme. They welcome gays and transgenders and even illegal aliens who choose to run for office, but the staunchest Democrat who is pro-life is an anathema to them.
And when they whine, “But Trump started it!” they are both childish and wrong! Every individual, whether a news commentator, a politician, or a regular American who spoke out in criticism of anything that President Obama did to tear down traditional values and destroy our “democracy” was met for eight years with cries of “Racist!” Every policeman who arrests a black criminal or shoots one in self-defense has been labeled as “Racist” since President Obama took office and that with the President’s tacit and often verbal approval. The hatred began long ago, and it began with the Democrats as a tool to silence all those who don’t agree with them.
As is often the case, liberals project onto conservatives the very faults from which they suffer, since by making us seem evil, they can mitigate their own hatred and vitriol or at the very least, justify it in their own minds. They call the truth and facts lies because they themselves have no truth or facts with which to refute them. They can not be reasoned with. They can not be convinced they are wrong.
Conservatives can only continue to stand up in the face of their vitriol. Democrats who are appalled by what their party has come to can only #walkaway.
