World War I was called the “War to end all wars,” a war to make the world safe for Democracy. And in order to see peace reign, leaders did what they had to do. French leader, Edouard Daladier was ashamed and appalled at the cheering crowds who greeted his return from a meeting in Munich with Hitler, wondering, “Don’t they realize what I have done?” Others, like Neville Chamberlain, basked in the glory, proclaiming “Peace in our time!” He was wrong. Dead wrong. George Santayana, writer and philosopher, once famously said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Here is a trip down memory lane.
