April Fool’s Day was Thursday. When I taught, students would take advantage of my gullibility and play tricks on me (I really wasn’t taken in, but when they thought so, it lightened the mood in the classroom).
Thursday was also the day Christians the world over celebrated Maundy Thursday, the day in Jesus’ life when he celebrated the Last Supper with His disciples. Our service went well, though not well attended by the faithful.
But this essay will deal with the real April Fools — many of those who voted for President Asterisk (aka Joe Biden) found out just how much they had been fooled by the visibly senile, nearly 80-year-old leader of the free world.
First up are the fools who thought that Biden would fulfill his promise of creating new jobs, bring in more manufacturing and cause much employment with his pledge of having a massive infrastructure bill. But what did he do when he had the power to affect the job market? He, by Executive Order, shut down the long debated Keystone XL pipeline, which would bring Canadian oil to refineries in the U. S. Jobs — 11,000 pipeline workers immediately lost theirs, while many other jobs which supported the work along the route were gone also.
Our President * also banned fracking on federal lands, a procedure which reclaimed more oil and natural gas for energy use. No more oil wells on those lands were to be allowed, and he shut off some of the Alaskan area to new fields of oil exploration
Also made to look like fools for voting for Biden were the Evangelicals for Biden, who must have believed that the new President’s Catholic faith would mean that he would oppose any massive extension of the abortion mills in America. But when he began his flurry of E. O. s, he included rescinding the previous administration’s ban on funding abortions in foreign lands, supported undoing the Hyde Amendment, which prohibited federal funds for abortions, and included money for Planned Parenthood in his budget proposals.
And how about those who felt that President * would ‘solve’ the immigration problem? Now, just 2 ½ months into his first (and hopefully) only term, a real crisis has evolved on our Southern border. Known terrorists have been apprehended, record numbers of minor children have been brought to the U. S. and an estimated 1000 uncaught migrants have entered the nation per day. With children packed together in ‘cages’, originally built by the Obama administration, some facilities are 700 to 1500 % of capacity. To oversee the problem (not crisis; the Bidenites refuse to use the c word), VP Kamala Harris was appointed. One Republican called her the worst one to be in this position. When a reporter then asked her if she was going down to visit the southern border, her response was to laugh. And, almost two weeks after this announcement, Harris has yet to visit the border in question. Believers in Biden’s ‘more humane’ treatment of illegal immigrants should feel quite fooled by the reality of his policies.
Biden also made a big deal of bringing together Democrats and Republicans, healing the deep rift between right and left that has been growing for over 30 years. His mantra was to ‘reach across the aisle’ and push an agenda that all America can support. This, too, must have fooled some, for (allegedly) 81 million Americans voted for Joe. How has that worked out? One of the first legislative accomplishments was a $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill, passed without any input by Congressional Republicans, and when up for a vote, passed without a single Republican vote in either the House or Senate. Now on the tee is a 2-3 trillion dollar infrastructure bill. So far, no member of the minority party has signed on, and President * is pushing the Senate leadership to nuke the filibuster in the Senate. Why? Because Biden knows he cannot get 10 Republican Senators to agree to such a boondoggle. Comity, anyone? Those who thought that red and blue would merge for the good of the nation under Joe Biden were totally fooled.
When campaigning, Biden made few promises that he might have to keep, partially because he hid out in his basement in Delaware during the contest. One campaign promise he has doubled down on is to raise taxes. His proposal will hit corporations by raising their tax rate by a third, hit the rich with an ‘excise’ tax and make sure those who are wealthy pay their fair share (in spite of the fact that the top 20% already pay 69% of all federal taxes that are collected). Already, a part of the middle class is in the crosshairs of the Democrat tax and spend gun. Those who put their faith in good ol’ Joe may not be fooled by this, as they see their tax dollars flow freely to Washington.
April fools? Biden voters, many of them, were fooled in November’s election, but it is now in April that they feel as if they were really duped.
