When I was growing up and through my young adulthood, I considered myself a Republican simply because my parents had been Republicans. I had no serious bias one way or the other. My parents, likewise, supported Democratic presidential candidate Hubert Humphrey because he was from Minnesota, the state of their births. I liked him also because he seemed a good man. Though too young to vote then, I was deeply moved by John Kennedy’s “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country!,” a nationalistic quote that would get President Trump in the normal load of hot water these days. I supported Johnson, voted for Carter for his first term, and Obama for his first(much to my regret with both of them!). I never liked President Clinton because from the first time I saw him he reminded me of those used car salesmen who trick you into buying the worst car on the lot. But on the whole, my idea of the Democratic Party was simply that it was one of our two political parties and sometimes their candidates were more appealing and sometimes they were not.
But I didn’t really know the Democratic Party. I didn’t know, for instance, that the Ku Klux Klan served as their military arm to keep black Americans in their places. It was only during the marches of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the atrocities carried out in the south to maintain segregation, something which I had never had any experience with, that I began to understand that it was the Democratic Party that had a stranglehold on blacks with Jim Crow laws in those southern states, Democrats, who had been unable to win the Civil War to keep them in slavery, but now kept them in virtual slavery with fear as their chains and cross burnings and lynchings to teach them not to imagine themselves truly free.
I learned later that it was the Democratic Party that fought tooth and nail to prevent the passage of the Civil Rights Law. And the Republican Party, who, having fought to free the slaves, now fought to make them equal with their white brothers and sisters by forcing the passage of that Civil Rights Law. But because President Johnson, a pragmatist and a Democrat, signed it into law, it is to the Democratic Party that black Americans have clung over the years, hoping that someday their Democratic leaders will raise them from the slums as they continually promise to do.
So how do the parties differ today?
The Democrats claim to be the Party of Science because they claim that the earth is warming dangerously caused by CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels. This science is “settled,
they claim, no room for dissenting voices, no room for facts that do not agree with their hypothesis.
Republicans agree that the earth may be warming, but they understand that throughout the history of the earth, there have been warm periods (far warmer than today) and cold periods and that these occurred when there were millions of fewer people living on the earth and when there were no coal powered electric plants, or cars, or airplanes . Republicans also know what Democrats deny. Humanity survives better in hot temperatures than in cold ones and CO2, which Democrats have determined to be the villain, actually is the miracle gas without which we could not grow plants and food.
Democrats in their Party of Science mode also deny that there are only two sexes, male and female, despite the science that says otherwise. They also believe that humans do not have their gender determined in the womb, but that they may choose their gender and then use drugs and surgery to change their gender, even though again, science proves that DNA determines gender and that cannot be changed. They will even argue that a man who has transgendered to a woman can conceive and bear a child, although that it biologically impossible because a man that transitions to a woman actually remains a biological man.
Republicans believe in two genders: male and female, as they were created by God. They observe the animal world with only male and female animals, thus created in order to be able to procreate. A male, whether a human or an animal, cannot produce a child by having sex with another male, nor can a female human or animal produce a child by having sex with another female. Republicans also believe in the science of DNA. A human, except in rare situations where he has both male and female genes, is born male or female with no choice in the matter whatsoever.
Democrats are the Party of Women. They claim to fight for women’s rights and accuse the Republican Party of being against woman because of the pro-life stance of most Republicans.
Yet, the Democratic Party through their strident and unwavering support of Planned Parenthood, supports and encouraged frightened young women who suddenly find themselves pregnant, to kill 332,757 babies in 2018 alone, many of them who would have grown up to be the women they claim to champion. They also support the rights of a biological male who has “transitioned” to a woman to participate in women’s sports. They ignore the fact that biological males have defeated every single woman athlete against whom they have competed and that allowing transgender girls and women to compete in girls’ and women’s sports will eventually kill those sports since no girl or woman is physically capable of defeating a biological male.
Republicans not only do not believe that it is possible to transition to the other gender, they also recognize that the skeleton, muscles, and mental processes of males and females are very different and remain as they were at birth, giving transgender females (biological males) an unbeatable advantage over biological females. Thus, women and girls are prevented from excelling in the very sports that were created to give them a chance to shine. Republicans want transgenders out of female sports. They are for real girls and women!
Democrats repeatedly tell us that they are concerned for the weakest and most needy among us, using this to excuse the homeless who camp and defecate on the sidewalks of Democratic cities, and also to argue that anyone who wishes to enter our country should be able to do so and then be taken care of through benefits from the government paid for by American taxpayers.
Republicans are truly concerned for the weakest and most needy among us which is why they are pro-life. At the moment of conception, the embryo already has DNA that is different from either its mother or father. Before a woman even knows she is pregnant, the baby in her womb has a heartbeat. To abort a fetus is to kill a living human child. Republicans wish to protect these, the most vulnerable among us, even if the mother finds it inconvenient. They also believe that like other countries in the world, we have the right to determine who to let into our country and who not to. They see the poor who come in and live off welfare or take the jobs of our less skilled workers. They see the gangs that ruthlessly murder children. They see the drugs cartels and the human traffickers. These people only prey on the system or on the vulnerable, taking what should go to American citizens instead. We cannot possibly support all the poor and needy of the world, but the Democrats want us to try, because these, who are usually fleeing totalitarian countries, vote Democratic because they are used to the government doing everything for them.
Much more can be said about the differences in these two parties. For my further comparisons, read “A Tale of Two Parties- Part II.”
