I have never in my lifetime seen a time such as we live in today.  Certainly, we have endured great turmoil in the past  – the riots of the 1960’s that destroyed parts of some major cities, the spate of assassinations that began with JFK and continued through Malcolm X, Bobby Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Jr., the bombings and police assassinations by radical left-wing groups like the Weathermen and the Black Panthers.  But these events, frightening as they were, never involved large segments of the population, nor were they tacitly or openly supported by either major political party.

What we are enduring now, is the systematic, illegal and unconstitutional efforts of one major political party to first prevent the victory of the other party’s presidential candidate, and then, having failed at that, to destroy his presidency in any way possible.  The Democratic Party is attempting a political coup.

It began long before election night with the start of an investigation by the FBI and DOJ into Hillary Clinton’s illegal use of a private and unsecured internet server during her time as Secretary of State. By contravening the law, she put national security at risk with a server that was subsequently determined to have been hacked by foreign governments. Though she obstructed justice by ordering the destruction of evidence in the form of emails, phones, and computers, and repeatedly lied about her actions, President Obama said on television he didn’t believe she had broken any laws, and FBI Director James Comey overstepped his bounds as an investigator and declared on national television that Hillary Clinton could not be prosecuted.  The Democratic candidate was safe to become president.

Then, apparently as an “insurance policy” discussed by highly partisan members of the FBI, “informants” or spies were sent to cozy up to Trump campaign workers with offers of setting up meetings with Russians to deliver dirt on Clinton, and the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign paid for a concocted “Steele Dossier” of rumors and innuendos purporting Russian connections with the Republican candidate, Donald Trump.  This unverified document, paid for by the Democratic candidate was then used by these same partisan FBI agents to get a FISA warrant to listen in on phone calls among the Republican candidate’s campaign members.  Watergate on steroids.

In their next move, Democrats released a tape shortly before the election, one that they had judiciously guarded until the best moment, of candidate Trump engaged in crude locker room boasting with Billy Bush on Access Hollywood ten years before the election.  It was distasteful in the extreme, and several women who were interviewed on television immediately said they would not vote for such a man for president. The Democrats were smugly confident.

Then someone obtained emails from the Democratic National Committee’s computers and gave them to Wikileaks who immediately published them, only weeks before the election.  The emails, all of which were true, painted Clinton in a very bad light.  The Democrats immediately blamed the Russians for hacking their computer server. (A later investigation determined that the data was removed from the server at a rate far greater than a hacker could have done and more in line with the information being copied to a flash drive.  Shortly after the emails went public, a staff member of the DNC was mysteriously murdered on a Washington street.  The murder has never been solved.) After the word about the emails got out, candidate Trump had joked at a rally that maybe the Russians could find the 33,000 emails that Clinton had deleted and acid washed from her illegal server.  That joke became proof to the Democrats that Trump was “colluding” with Russia to steal the election. But only hard-core Clinton supporters seemed impressed.

Then suddenly election night was upon us and liberals watched in unbelieving shock as Republican candidate Donald Trump won state after state, walking away with the majority of the electoral votes, thus winning the presidency.  Hillary Clinton was mysteriously absent until morning when she finally conceded her loss.

However, Green Candidate, Jill Stein, then chose to dispute the vote tallies in several supposedly “blue” states that had gone red in the election. The Clinton camp joined in. When one tally was completed, President-elect Trump had gained even more votes rather than lose them. Judges shut down the counts elsewhere.

The liberals’ next step was to declare the election null and void because more people had actually voted for Clinton than for Trump.  They argued that the Electoral College should be retroactively abolished and the victory handed to Clinton.  There were, of course, some problems with that.  One, laws do not apply retroactively.  Two, many counties in states like California had more votes cast than people of voting age in their counties.  In some counties, as many as 140% of their eligible (not registered, but eligible) voters had cast ballots.  So just how accurate was Clinton’s “popular vote victory?”  And three, it would take a constitutional amendment to throw out the Electoral College, a process that would take the agreement of Congress and the votes of 38 states. . . not an overnight task, and given that the Republicans had won 30 of the 50 states, an unlikely scenario.

So Hollywood jumped into the act.  Famous actors and actresses appeared in television ads across the country, urging the delegates to the Electoral College to “vote their conscience” rather than the will of the voters of their states.  And some did in fact do that.  But more who were pledged to vote for Clinton changed their votes than those who were pledged to Trump.

Failed again!

Thus began the infamous “Russian Collusion” theory. The government had known for a long time that Russia and other foreign countries had been meddling in our elections, attempting to hack into various computer systems and placing “fake” news ads on Facebook and other social media.  Sadly, we have done the same in the presidential elections of other countries, something that the news media conveniently chooses to ignore! This meddling had gone on for years and President Obama had been begged by several government officials to do something about it.  He told Vladimir Putin of Russia to “cut it out,” a brilliant, though ineffective strategy on his part. However, as even President Obama repeatedly assured voters, because of our decentralized voting system, it is not possible for anyone to have “hacked” into the voting and actually changed votes.  The electoral process was safe.  But Democrats harkened back to candidate Trump’s joke about Clinton’s deleted emails and their assertion that an independent company hired by them had determined that Russians had indeed hacked their server.  The FBI, who never examined the server themselves, simply took the DNC’s word for it and Obama’s administration announced that the Russians had hacked the DNC’s server and released the emails to Wikileaks.  Clinton supporters were outraged, claiming it had cost her the election.  Bernie Sanders’ supporters were outraged because the emails proved that the DNC had helped Clinton win the nomination.  Polls later showed that votes were not really changed by the emails.  People were simply confirmed in the choice they had already made.  But the Democratic Party and the Clintons repeatedly asserted that the Trump campaign had “colluded” with Russia to steal the election and the uproar that was to continue to some degree for years was begun.

Then Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein sent President Trump a letter, advising him to fire James Comey for his inept (at best) handling of the Clinton investigation, and President Trump did so.  In retaliation, Comey leaked his private and classified conversations with the President to the press through a friend of his, thus forcing, by his careful editing of the conversations, the appointment of a Special Counsel.

For the next two years, the press gleefully published story after story that the smoking gun had been found or was on the verge of being found.  Instead, Mueller, whose investigative team is packed with Democrats who donated to Democratic candidates, and one of whom acted as Clinton’s lawyer at one point, has only managed to indict a couple of Trump associates for lying to the FBI, even though the FBI itself claimed that at least one of them had not lied to them at all, and another for dealings with the Ukraine years before he became a part of Trump’s campaign.  Mueller also smugly indicted 13 Russians or Russian companies for interference in the election.  Unfortunately for them, one company immediately challenged the indictment and wanted to go to court.  Why?  Because they had not been in existence at the time of the accused crime!  President Trump’s personal lawyer was arrested and all of his files, confidential attorney-client files dealing with Trump and other clients, seized, damaging the assurance of attorney-client privilege.  But nothing, not a scrap, has turned up to prove Trump-Russia collusion, and Comey’s own notes and past record as revealed by IG Michael Horowitz’s investigation prove that Trump did not attempt to obstruct justice by firing James Comey.

By now, most of the American people have come to agree that this is a witch hunt with nothing but political animus behind it!

From the day of the election, liberals have marched in the streets crying “Not MY President!” and marches in D.C. on inauguration day turned into riots with some destruction of property. Rep. Maxine Waters and others have called repeatedly for the President’s impeachment and such a proposal was even introduced to the House of Representatives where it was ignored, as it deserved to be.

Democrats labeled themselves, not the loyal opposition as the party out of power has always been, but #theResistance!  And resist they have.  Every cabinet appointment, every judicial appointment, and the Supreme Court appointment of Neil Gorsuch have been met with endless, often inappropriate and sometime unconstitutional questions.  Despite the Constitution guaranteeing that religion shall not be a factor in anyone being hired for a governmental position, for example, Democratic Senators hammered one appointee about how her devout Catholicism might influence her decisions on a circuit court. Still, slowly but surely, appointees were forced through by the Republican majority.

When the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was passed by Congress, it was initially unpopular with Americans, because prominent Democrats and all of the mainstream media except Fox repeated endlessly that it was only a tax cut for the wealthy and that it would raise taxes on the middle class.  When millions of those middle class workers began to receive $1000 to $3000 bonuses from their companies and middle class Americans’ paychecks were suddenly bigger, Rep. Nancy Pelosi famously dismissed these results as “crumbs.”

In May of this year, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the government was instituting a zero tolerance program as far as illegal aliens was concerned.  Enter the country illegally and you will be locked up pending either the granting of asylum or deportation.  Throughout both the Bush and Obama administrations, those who were incarcerated had their children housed separately.  Under President Obama, 90,000 children, some of them unaccompanied by their parents, were detained in cages and under conditions so deplorable that a Federal judge ordered that they could not be held longer that 20 days.  In fairness, the sheer number of children entering the country had overwhelmed the system, but nothing was said about it in the press.  Nor was anything said in May about the zero tolerance policy.  The outrage was kept until President Trump began to rack up impressive victories in the Supreme Court and with his summit with Kim Jong Un of North Korea.  Then suddenly the news erupted with the picture of children in cages under Obama in 2014 and attributing those pictures to the present day. Trump was excoriated for separating children from their parents, and even though the pictures were proven to have been taken in 2014, people still talk about “keeping kids in cages” as if this were indeed going on today. Long after he signed a Presidential Decree that children would be kept with their parents, liberals orchestrated marches around the country demanding that children be kept with their parents, as if nothing had already been done.  Huh!  I guess it fooled some folk who don’t keep up with the news.  Or maybe, since organizers of the Women’s March helped organize this “Don’t separate Families!” march, just as they had helped organize the march of “children” on Washington after the Parkland shooting,  it was just the same folks out for a fresh breath of “Trump is a Nazi!”

Following the harassment of members of the Trump administration as they attempted to eat in restaurants and attend movies, Rep. Maxine Water of “Impeach Him!” fame and Senator Corey Booker who is aiming for a Democratic presidential run in 2020 called for liberals to continue such despicable and un-American behavior.  The country was so outraged that Senator Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, worried about the 2018 midterm elections, finally had to come out against such behavior, although a group of prominent black women have written to them to scold them for not supporting Ms. Waters.

The Trump administration and all those who voted for President Trump or who have come to see that his policies are in fact making America great again are constantly accused of being racist, homophobic, xenophobic Nazis.  In fact, it has happened so often, that normal Americans are just shrugging at the vile accusations.  They no longer mean anything to us since none of us are racist, homophobic, xenophobic Nazis, and being called that so often, we have become numb to the insults.

So, how well is this attempt by the Democratic Party and its leftist base working in its goal of delegitimizing the President? Not so well. While some Republican “Never Trumpers” like George Will seem to have lost their reason completely in their hatred of Trump, other “Never Trumpers” have reluctantly become Trump supporters, driven to that support by the vileness of the left and the positive achievements of the Trump administration.  As for Democrats themselves?  Trump retains the solid support of the vast majority of those who voted him into office, including those former Democrats who felt betrayed and ignored by their party.  And other Democrats as well, dismayed by the rush of their party to the far left and the extreme vitriol and uncouth behavior displayed by that far left base, are quietly leaving the party. Will they vote Republican?  Maybe.  Or maybe they will simply stay home.  What they will not do is vote for members of a party that no longer reflects their values.

So far, the coup has failed!
