For those who read our blog, my entry for today is to not feel sorry for yourself as the coronavirus ravishes the nation. We have survived worse each year, for the “seasonal” flu kills far more each flu season than this one is projected to do in the worst case scenario.
What are the bright lights for today?
First, for myself. This pesky kidney of mine, the one that almost killed me two months ago is slowly beginning to work properly. Thursday’s tests show a gradual improvement in function, and I am feeling better almost every day. This morning was my third day of walking, and I am looking at 17 or 18 minutes for tomorrow’s sojourn in the out of doors. In a few weeks a marathon is not out of the possible!
And because of that same balky organ, we are in (partial) self-quarantined status. This means that when Jane goes someplace, I can ride along and dog-sit while she enters the grocery or pharmacy or Rural King. Mostly I enjoy just sitting in my easy chair, reading or snoozing with a cat (usually Ming) in my lap. Right now it is Simba, but he does not bother me since he snoozes also.
The sun came up this morning. Illinois is in a lock-down, but ole Sol paid no attention to Gov. Pritzker’s order. We (with me in the shotgun location) went to Wal Mart, then to Terre Haute for lunch at a drive-thru and are now enjoying peace and quiet. Others have it far worse, getting sick and some dying, so our discomfort is relative; we pray for those each day.
We have plenty. Except for my limited diet, we have enough to eat and are fixed with water for several weeks. There is no lack of toilet paper in our closet, and our supply of paper towels will last for another month or so. And if you think to come and relieve us of our excess, we have topped off our ammo supply!
Our gratitude extends to those who prayed for my recovery. Each week requires me to have blood taken for tests, than go to have it evaluated by my kidney specialist. But this occasional interruption confirms my getting better. God has been good to us.
Now we look forward to our government following through on its promise to provide us with extra money to survive financially. That check for $2400 will be deposited in our account by April 6th or so, as the leaders of our great republic have never let us down before, have they? (That last is written with tongue in cheek, for it is sarcasm at its highest!) I do hope that you get your stimulus check, but advise you not to spend it until it shows up in your account!
My only lingering problem is this annoying “port” in my chest. Of course, it is for the purpose of dialysis should I need it, but I cannot take even a quick shower until it comes out. But maybe, just maybe, this week’s test will alloy Dr. Gera to remove it next week.
Thanks for reading this post. Frustration has been frequent since being released from hospital, and the virus problems have only made it worse. But looking at our situation (and knowing many of you are worse off) made me realize that perhaps our God has been better to me (us) than I have realized. God bless and strengthen you as our nation recovers from this pandemic
